One day I was tucked into the back of a London black cab weaving past the Cheesegrater, the Can of Ham, and numerous other glassy cloudscrapers. Rain hovered in the grey autumn air as I boarded the Thameslink to Gatwick. The next morning I was striding across the Great Wall of China, the crisp sun ducking and diving between the clouds. I was there less than a day in calibrated time. It felt like a week or more in personal experience.
